What we're up to

Cohen and I spend lots of time together, and I love spending that time doing the things that bring him the most joy (and thus making a happy mother.)

There is a park right by our house that offers free lunch for kids every week day. I think it's fabulous! Sure, sometimes it means he goes down for a late nap, but it's totally worth it. I think we probably eat lunch at the park at least 3 times a week. Sometimes it's just Cohen and I, sometimes we call some friends to come, and sometimes we just see some friends already there. I'm a little nervous about what to do when this summer lunch program ends. Cohen just loves it!

The girl on the left is Lashae, 3 months younger than Cohen, and a little sweetheart. We go to the park together a lot with her and her older brother who's 5. The boy to the right of Cohen is Ben, he's 3 and makes a good playmate. They like to run around together and throw and catch balls.

Cohen loves my sunglasses so much. I started letting him where them in the car, and he kept them on, and enjoyed them. So.... we went and got him some at Old Navy. The only ones left had soccer balls on them. Cohen would have picked these out of a hundred others I'm sure. He's very aware if the sun is shining in his eyes or not, and asks for his "sum-gasses" so the "sumshine" doesn't get in his eyes. Once we're in the car, or on the way to the car he says, "Mama, I want sum-gasses, peese." Doesn't he just look like a little man?

We have some friends, Garrett and Christine, that love the Costco chocolate cake probably almost as much as we do. They babysat for us one night, so I splurged and bought the enormous cake for the 4.5 of us to share. It was wonderful. I'm happy to say that our little family DIDN'T finish our half of the cake. I don't know how many pounds that would have made me gain, but it wouldn't have been good. Don't worry, I got a good share of it. Anyway.... Cohen loved it of course. He's generally not a messy eater, and doesn't like getting gooey unless the taste outweighs the messiness, and I guess it did this time. Could he be any happier in this picture?

My sweet son LOVES guitars! Before I even got mine out (sadly, it had been years) he pretended everything was a guitar and starting singing and making a pretend guitar sound. One day I told him I had a real guitar and that I would get it out. He about lost his breathe in such excitement. I was the coolest mom ever at this point. The thrill of playing a real guitar, strumming, and singing is one of the best things in the world to him.

He asks me to get out the guitar daily now, and sings songs about various people and events in his life. It's oh so cute. I have also revisited my guitar playing abilities (they are few) so we can make up songs to a few chords. It's so much fun!

I found a children's guitar on craigslist.com for only $10 that goes for $30 or $40 new. I bought it for his birthday, and can't wait to see his reaction! Maybe he'll actually be able to reach all of the strings on a guitar more his size. :) I'm loving life.
