Potty Training....we tried

We all live and learn, right?

At Cohen's 2 year check-up the doctor told us how great Cohen was doing with his interest in the toilet and going on it and said we could probably have him trained in a couple of weeks if we wanted to. I was totally not expecting that, but the idea made me thrilled! Cohen potty trained when the new baby comes, only one kid in diapers, yea!

We started potty training him on general conference weekend, the first one in October (only a couple of weeks after his birthday). We stuck with it for 3 weeks. There were ups and downs just like any kid goes through. During that time I was put on bed rest... oh, no. Potty training and bed rest really don't jive well. We tried, and actually did fairly well. At the end of our 3 or 4 weeks, he went a couple of days with NO MISTAKES! It was amazing! Then, something switched in my dear son's little brain. He decided that watching me scrub the floor was more entertaining than getting rewarded for dry underwear and going on the toilet. He started to blatantly fully relieve himself in his underwear, sometimes right in front of me, and after doing a small little tinkle on the toilet. I continued with it, scrubbing the floors, and all for a few days, and then stuck him back in diapers, even then still continued with the ideas, just while in diapers. It's not good to be on bed rest and scrub floors and run around after a peeing child. We were trying to keep the baby in! Then, he just slowly lost interest in going on the toilet at all. It's mid November, and he goes on it now maybe once a day. I've given up for now. The timing was all wrong, and perhaps Cohen just wasn't mature enough, although he was fully capable. After I'm done with taking care of a newborn for a few months we'll probably try again. These are the times when I just have to tell myself how much I love the kid, and try to not get too frustrated!

HaHa! The joys of potty trainging. I think it takes a couple of tries, so don't be to discouraged.
